The Chandernahan Lake is a small body of water fed by many springs and snowmelt. It is the genuine source of the Pabbar River, which you will hike alongside for the duration of your adventure. The lake is in an alpine zone, at roughly 14,000 feet, and the height adds a whole other dimension to the experience. The lake is surrounded by towering snow peaks in the shape of a bowl. Trekking to the lake feels like it's almost like a large ascent.
The journey to the lake is quite an adventure, which hikers enjoy. To get to its snout, you must hike up the towering Pabbar water falls from your final camp in Litham. You may even watch the river flow beneath your feet from the snout. This is one of the most exciting parts of the walk for most hikers.
To get to the final Chandernahan lake, deep inside the alpine valley, you must cross five additional alpine lakes (smallish lakes) from the snout. From the snout, the walk takes around two hours, but each step feels like an adventure. In most seasons, you may expect to see snow patches all around you.
